Authors: Christian Kaare Paaskesen, Med. Stud., Hasan Gökcer Tekin, MD.
Wound bed assessment
- Sloughy
- Cavity wounds
Moisture assessment
- Low exuding
Contra-indications
- Heavily exuding wounds
Advantages
Supplies moisture to the wound, thus creating an optimal environment for healing. Necrotic tissue and fibrin may be treated with hydrogels inducing autolytic debridement.
Disadvantages
High risk of maceration of wound edges if not contained inside wound bed and requires a firm secondary dressing protecting surrounding skin (such as film or silicone dressings).
