Excision of Facial Tumors

V-Excision

Authors: Anne Mosebo med.stud., Mia Steffenssen MD and Magnus Balslev Avnstorp, MD.

Background

The V-excision is a full-thickness resection which can be used for both upper and lower lip lesions. The apex of the V form should be located in the nasolabial fold of the upper lip and in the labiomental crease of the lower lip. The excision is closed primarily, normally in three layers with particular attention to re-approximating the orbicularis oris muscle. The procedure results in a vertical linear scar.
