Burn size and TBSA calculator

Estimate the total body surface area (TBSA) of a burn injury by painting the affected second- and third-degree burns directly onto age-specific body silhouettes. This free burn calculator helps plastic surgeons, emergency physicians, nurses and medical students quickly assess burn extent and plan fluid resuscitation.

What is Total Body Surface Area (TBSA)?

TBSA is the percentage of the body affected by burns. An accurate TBSA estimate is essential for triage, transfer decisions and calculating fluid requirements in burn patients.

Rule of Nines and the Lund–Browder chart

Adults are often assessed with the Wallace Rule of Nines, while children need the Lund–Browder chart because body proportions change with age. This tool uses age-specific silhouettes for babies, children and adults so paediatric burn size is estimated correctly.

Fluid resuscitation

From the TBSA and the patient's weight, the tool estimates crystalloid fluid resuscitation split across the first and second phases, plus maintenance glucose for children — supporting early burn management in the emergency department.

This burn assessment tool is for education and clinical support only and does not replace validated charts, local protocols or senior clinical judgement.
