Add a procedure or case

In this guide, you will learn to add a menu item and a procedure or case. If you already have your menu in place and you just want to add a procedure or case, then jump to step 8.

Step 1: Go to “WP admin”

Click on the menu item “WP Admin” at the bottom of the side menu.

Step 2: Select “Pages”

Click on the menu item “Pages” in the side menu

Step 3: Select “Add new”

The menu item is actually just a page, with a specific template. So go ahead and create a new page by selecting “Add new”.

Step 4: Add name of menu item

The title of the page is used as the name of the menu item, so add the menu item name in the title.

Step 5: Select template

Select the “Document” tab, then the “Page attributes” dropdown, and select the template called “Topic – Menu item”.

Step 6: Select a “Parent page” and “Order”

Now it’s time to place the page in the page hierarchy. Go to “Document” > “Page Attributes”. Select the parent page and then the order. The order controls in what order that pages are displayed in the menu. The pages are ordered from 0 and up.

Save or publish the page

Step 8: Add a new page

Now we want to add the Procedure or Case page. Create a new page by selecting “Add new”.

Step 9: Add title and content

Add a title and maybe some content. If it is a procedure then the title should be “Procedure”. If it is a case then the title should have the following format: “Case [number]: [Title of case]” e.g. “Case 1: Hypertrophic breasts”. Add the content in the following order and use blocks for all elements except Authors and Introduction.

  • Authors (text in italic)
  • Introduction (text)
  • Before and After
  • Steps
  • Pearls (Optional)
  • Pitfalls (Optional)
  • Video (Optional)
  • References

Step 10: Select template

Select “Document”, then in the “Page attributes” dropdown and select the template “Topic – Procedure or case”

Step 11: Select a “Parent page” and “Order”

Place the page in the page hierarchy. Select the parent page and then the order. The order controls in what order that pages are displayed in the menu. The pages are ordered from 0 and up.

  • If you have followed this guide and created a menu item, then select the newly created menu item as the parent.

Step 11: Add a featured image

The featured image is used when showing the procedure or case on the front page, the overview or in the bottom of procedure and cases.
